A Foot in the Door for Dermatophyte Research

چکیده
Dermatophytes are a group of filamentous fungi that cause infections of the skin (see Figure 1 for diseases, Figure 2 for typical dermatophyte species). Diseases caused by dermatophytes include athlete’s foot, ringworm, jock itch, and nail infections (onychomycosis). The medical terminology for dermatophyte infections is to use the word tinea (to denote a fungal infection of the skin) followed by a word that describes the site of infection. For example, tinea pedis refers to athlete’s foot and tinea capitis is scalp ringworm. In general, dermatophytes remain localized to keratinized surfaces such as skin, hair, and nails and do not invade deeper tissues. That said, dermatophyte infections in immunocompromised patients can be quite severe. Dermatophytes are grouped into three general categories based on their natural environment: anthropophilic (live exclusively on humans), zoophilic (live on an animal host), and geophilic (live in the soil) [1]. The majority of human infections are caused by anthropophilic species; however, species from all three groups have been associated with human disease. For example, pets with ringworm can transmit the infection to their owners, and stray cats carrying dermatophytes are considered to be a vector for infection in several eastern and southern European countries [2].

Foot-operated door opener to eliminate the door handle as a source of contamination
AIM As door handles represent a transmission route for viruses and micro-organisms, a door opening and closing mechanism should be developed without manual operation. METHOD To solve the problem, a device for opening the door with the help of a foot pedal was built into the door leaf. RESULTS The design enables mechanical opening of the door with a foot pedal without manual operation. Subse...
متن کاملAn Examination of Self-Perception Mediation of the Foot-in-the-Door Effect
In 1966, Freedman and Fraser demonstrated that an individual is more likely to comply with a large request for help if that person has previously agreed to an initial small request—a phenomenon they called the "foot-in-the-door" effect. In the present survey, studies that have sought to replicate the foot-inthe-door effect are reviewed. The adequacy of a self-perception explanation for the foot...
متن کاملBlood donation and the foot-in-the-door technique: a limiting case.
Three experiments testing the effectiveness of the foot-in-the-door technique for recruiting blood donors consistently failed to demonstrate that this procedure influences either verbal or behavioral compliance, suggesting that the generality of the foot-in-the-door phenomenon is limited. Experiment 1 attempted to demonstrate that an earlier failure of this technique was due to poor operational...
متن کاملSelf-Concept Clarity and the Foot-in-the-Door Procedure
The deceptively simple foot-in-the-door technique is the oldest and most widely researched of the sequential-request compliance procedures investigated by social psychologists. Since its introduction by Freedman and Fraser (1966), the procedure has been examined in more than a hundred published studies and has been the topic of several reviews and meta-analyses (Beaman, Cole, Preston, Klentz, &...
متن کاملOn modeling door-to-door parcel delivery services in Iran
Parcel delivery is a complex logistic service, as it serves many small or medium-sized customers who may send or receive parcels. Modeling such delivery system needs to integrate two different research areas of hub location and vehicle routing. As it totally depends on the network and the linkage of the nodes, in this paper, some door-to-door service providers are taken into account to provide ...
